MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, will pay a GH₵10,000 fine each day starting August 14, 2025, until it provides the detailed bouquet pricing information demanded by the National Communications Authority (NCA).
The sanction was announced by Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, August 15. He explained that the fines follow DStv’s continued failure to comply with a formal request to submit its pricing model for regulatory scrutiny.
According to the minister, the NCA first requested on August 4, with an initial deadline of August 5. This was later extended at the company’s request to August 11, but no submission was made.
“Per the Electronic Communications Act, failure to produce information requested by the regulator attracts a GHS10,000 daily fine,” Mr George wrote.
“In good faith, I waived the fine from the 5th until yesterday when I met the management again and they still had not submitted the requested information.”
Mr George stressed that the penalties will remain in place until MultiChoice provides the necessary data, which will help the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation make informed decisions about pay-TV pricing in Ghana.
The minister reiterated that his actions are aimed at protecting Ghanaian consumers and ensuring fair pricing.
“I remain committed to ensuring that the best deal is secured for the Ghanaian people. For God and Country,” he added.
This latest move comes amid a standoff between the government and MultiChoice over calls for a 30% reduction in DStv subscription fees, a proposal the company has dismissed as “not tenable.”
