The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of dancehall star Shatta Wale, Sammy Flex, has strongly dismissed claims by media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah that the artiste was “used and dumped” by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Afrifa-Mensah, in a viral social media video, alleged that Shatta Wale allowed himself to be exploited by the NDC for political power.
However, in a response posted on X (formerly Twitter) on August 15, 2025, Sammy Flex refuted the allegation, insisting that Shatta Wale has never been a political puppet.
Shatta Wale Performed for NPP, Not NDC
Sammy Flex clarified that the dancehall musician has always kept a neutral stance during political campaigns, stressing that his performances have been purely business-driven.
“Remember last year during a series of youth-led protests? Some celebrities took part, and they were even NDC-sponsored events. But Shatta never involved himself,” he said.
He added:
“Throughout the campaign season, he never aligned with any political party. The only two times you saw him on campaign platforms were for Ursula Owusu and Kozie, both NPP. And even then, he was strictly there to perform. It was business, not politics.”
Clarification on Viral Mahama Kneeling Video
Addressing a resurfaced video of Shatta Wale kneeling before former President John Dramani Mahama, Sammy Flex explained that the act was simply an apology for a past misunderstanding, not a political endorsement.
“So, those claims that he was used by the NDC to campaign and was later abandoned are false. People making these claims should get their facts right,” he added.
The Bigger Picture
Shatta Wale, known for hits like Dancehall King, Ayoo, and On God, has previously stressed his independence from partisan politics, often reminding fans that his music is for all Ghanaians regardless of political affiliation.
