The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reportedly arrested Kofi Akpaloo, the 2024 presidential candidate and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
Family sources confirmed to Citi News that Mr. Akpaloo was taken from his residence in Kumasi on Friday. His relatives, however, say they are unaware of the reasons behind his arrest and have not been informed of his current location.
As of now, EOCO has not issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Mr. Akpaloo, who is both a businessman and a contractor, has previously disclosed that he received government contracts under the former Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration. It is, however, unclear whether his arrest is linked to any of those contracts.
The leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana has been a notable figure in Ghana’s political space, known for contesting in presidential elections and championing policies aimed at economic reform.
SikaTimes will continue to monitor developments and provide updates once EOCO makes an official statement regarding Mr. Akpaloo’s arrest.
