The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into police custody.

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the police disclosed that Abronye was arraigned before the Circuit Court in Accra, where the judge ordered that he be remanded until Friday, September 12, 2025, when he is expected to reappear.

Abronye was arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, for what the police described as “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.” His arrest followed his earlier criticism of the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, which reportedly formed the basis of the charges against him.

The development comes just days after Abronye formally sought political asylum in eight countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, and Germany, citing political persecution and threats to his life under the current administration.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to provide further details on the specific conduct leading to the charges, but confirmed he will remain in custody until the court resumes hearing on the matter.
