Ghanaian actor and social commentator Prince David Osei has raised concerns about what he describes as the unlawful arrest of citizens for simply exercising their constitutional right to free speech.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on September 14, 2025, the outspoken actor accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of suppressing freedoms it once defended.
“Citizens are being unlawfully arrested for exercising their constitutional right to free speech. Is it fair to say the very dogs they bred are now barking back at them?” he wrote.
He further argued that some government officials who once incited “vandalism, chaos, violence, hate speech, and ethnic division” are now clamping down on dissent.
“True democracy,” he stressed, “is about allowing dissenting and critical voices to be heard, not silenced.”
Prince David Osei’s comments have generated debate online. While some Ghanaians commended him for boldly speaking out, others criticised his claims, saying they lacked concrete evidence of “unlawful arrests.”
The actor made these remarks in response to an apology issued by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who admitted to past mistakes made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during its time in office.
Commending Bawumia, Prince David Osei said:
“It takes a visionary leader, humble and grounded like Dr Bawumia, to acknowledge past mistakes and offer a sincere apology to the nation. God bless you.”
