The Ghana Police Service has officially confirmed the arrest of Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, September 8, 2025, the police said Abronye was taken into custody for “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.”
According to the release, Abronye is currently in police custody and is expected to be put before the court in the coming days.
Background
The arrest follows earlier reports of Abronye’s detention after he honoured an invitation at the Police CID Headquarters in Accra. He was reportedly interrogated and later charged.
Before his arrest, Abronye had filed for political asylum in eight countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Côte d’Ivoire, citing what he described as political persecution, intimidation, and threats to his life under the current administration.
His legal team had earlier expressed concern over his whereabouts after he was allegedly transferred from the CID Headquarters to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), only for them to be told he had not arrived there.
With this latest confirmation from the Police Service, all eyes will now be on the courts to determine the outcome of the case against the outspoken NPP regional chairman.
