Popular socialite, Efia Odo, has offered some words of encouragement following the tragic plane crash, as well as other crashes that Ghanaians now remember as “Dark Wednesday.”

In response to a social media post listing the day’s devastating incidents, which included the fatal helicopter crash, a tricycle accident claiming five lives, and a deadly intercity bus crash, she reminded her followers of life’s fragility.

“More deaths happen daily; these are just the ones that have been reported. That’s why we should live a life full of love, cuz tomorrow isn’t promised,” she wrote on X on August 7, 2025.

What happened on Dark Wednesday?

A Ghana Air Force Z‑9 helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi crashed in the Ashanti Region amid an official mission to tackle illegal mining.

All eight aboard perished, including Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, the NDC vice-chair, and crew members.

In the aftermath, President John Dramani Mahama declared three days of national mourning, ordered flags at half-mast, and suspended official engagements.

On August 7, Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, was appointed to serve as Acting Minister of Defence, while retaining his position as Minister of Finance.
