A devastating fire has swept through Lartebiokorshie, near the Salvation Army School in Accra, destroying more than 10 houses and leaving several residents injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that the inferno, which began on the evening of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, is believed to have started at a Chinese-owned plastic manufacturing company. The flames quickly spread to nearby houses, causing panic among residents.

According to reports, a pregnant woman trapped inside one of the buildings was successfully rescued, while two firefighters sustained injuries while battling the blaze. Both officers, along with several affected residents, were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Citi FM, in an update shared on its X (formerly Twitter) page, confirmed that the fire started opposite St. Anthony’s, behind Oliver Twist, and had already gutted over 10 houses within two hours.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed four fire tenders to the scene. However, Muntari Wahab, Assemblyman for the area, called for urgent reinforcements, warning that the fire was spreading rapidly beyond the reach of available resources.

“More support is urgently needed,” he appealed, stressing that additional equipment and personnel were critical to containing the situation.

As of now, the extent of the damage and the number of displaced residents remain unclear. Investigations are expected to be launched into the exact cause of the fire.
