The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the conviction of three Nigerian nationals for engaging in vehicle theft activities within the Kumasi Metropolis.

The suspects, Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze, were arrested on June 20, 2025, after targeting parked vehicles in different parts of Kumasi.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

On July 22, 2025, the three men appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court. During the hearing, Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL). His accomplices, Francis Friday and Linus Agwazie, pleaded not guilty.

However, on July 23, 2025, Circuit Court 3 found both Friday and Agwazie guilty and handed them 8-year IHL sentences each on two counts, to run concurrently.

That same day, Circuit Court 1 also ruled on additional charges against all three suspects, imposing 20-year IHL sentences each, also on two counts, to run concurrently.

On July 24, 2025, Ekenze faced further charges at Circuit Court 2 and was convicted again, receiving an additional 10-year IHL sentence on two counts, to run concurrently with his earlier conviction.

Serving Time at Kumasi Central Prison

All three convicts are currently serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison.
