Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has dismissed growing criticism over his performance record, insisting that statistics of wins and losses do not tell the full story of Ghana’s progress in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Since returning for a second stint as head coach, Addo has overseen 15 matches, registering five wins, five draws, and five defeats. His team has scored 27 goals, conceded 18, and kept only four clean sheets — giving him a win rate of 33.3%.
Despite the underwhelming numbers, the 49-year-old maintains that Ghana remain firmly in contention.
“Statistics of my wins and losses are of no use. I’m not afraid of anything, not even being sacked. We are still on top of Group I, so nothing has changed,” Addo told the press.
Looking ahead to the crucial clash against Mali in Accra on Monday, Addo stressed the importance of focus and discipline, warning his players against complacency.
“Game by game, there will be no underrating of any team,” he said.
The showdown with Mali is expected to be one of the toughest fixtures in Group I, as both nations battle for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Otto Addo’s defiant stance suggests his priority remains results on the pitch, rather than outside criticism, as the Black Stars push to strengthen their qualification chances.
